論文投稿時にはカバーレターも一緒に提出しますが、初めてだと何を書いたらいいか不安な方もいらっしゃいますよね。
そこで今回は、カバーレターの書き方をご紹介します（全文サンプルも載せています）。
これまでの経験上、このテンプレートに沿って作れば大抵通用すると思います。一度作ってみるとパターンは分かると思いますので、まずは下記参考に作ってみてください。
- 筆者は医学系論文の投稿経験しかありません。レターの体裁は一般的なものですが、分野により慣習的な違い等あるかもしれませんのでご注意ください。
カバーレターのサンプル
早速ですが、サンプルです。カラーテキストの部分を書き換えるイメージで作るといいと思います。

カバーレターの要素
レターの構成要素は、以下の５ブロックで考えると楽です。
- 日付＆宛名
- 冒頭の文章
- 論文の内容紹介
- 編集部に伝えたいこと
- 署名
日付＆宛名
一般的なレターと同様、冒頭は日付と宛名を入れます。
編集長の名前は、ジャーナルのウェブサイトの “Editorial Board” の紹介ページにあるはずです。分からない場合は確認してくださいね。

冒頭の文章
冒頭文はサンプル文の「論文のタイトル」と「雑誌名」の部分を書き換えるだけです。毎回同じパターンで作れます。

論文の内容紹介
Main Body は論文の概要説明です。Abstract自体は別で提出していますし、長々と説明する必要はありません。以下を１文ずつ入れられれば十分だと思います。

- 何が分かったのか
- 研究の意義・アピールポイント

サンプルはちょっと長すぎかもです（スミマセン）。結果をもっとシンプルにして、意義を増やした方がバランスいいですよね…。この辺りは論文内容にもよるので調節してください。
編集部に伝えたいこと
Main Body の後には編集部に伝えておきたいことを含めます。テンプレ的な文言で済む場合がほとんどです。
基本的には以下の内容があればいいと思います。
読者の興味関心のある内容だということ（アピール）
We believe that the findings of this study are relevant to the scope of your journal and will be of interest to your readership.
未発表の内容であること、同時投稿していないこと
The content of this manuscript has not been published elsewhere in part or entirety and is not under consideration by another journal.
Authorship
著者の貢献（Author Contribution）について、カバーレター内で明記するよう指示するジャーナルもあります。
特に具体的な指示が無ければ下記程度の記述で良いと思いますが、どの程度具体的な記述が必要かはジャーナルによりますので投稿規定を確認してくださいね。
All authors have significantly contributed to this work and have approved the manuscript for submission to your esteemed journal.
もし各著者の役割（貢献）を明記する場合は、「Author Contribution（著者の貢献）の書き方」を参考にステートメントを作成してください。
その他伝えたいこと
その他、編集部に伝えたいことや規定で求められている事項（推薦したい査読者の情報など）があれば入れましょう。
基本的には上の４点で足ると思いますが、カバーレターの必須項目（情報）については投稿規定で指示されている可能性があります。（稀ですが、カバーレターのテンプレが用意されている場合もあります。）念のため規定を確認した上で作成してくださいね。
署名
一般的なレターと同様、最後に締めの挨拶と署名を入れれば完成です。

カバーレターの重要性について
カバーレターに重きを置く人も中にはいらっしゃいます。それは各々のポリシーなので良いと思いますが、個人的にはそこまでシリアスに考える必要はないかなと思います。
１枚で収めようとすると入れられる情報量には限りがあり、自由に書ける部分は少ないからです。研究の内容自体は Abstract で確認されると思うので、細かな説明も要らないはずです。その研究の面白さやインパクトを端的に２～３文で書くのがいいのだと思います。
私は通常、サンプルの感じでＡ４かレターサイズ１枚に収まるように作成しています。カバーレターで何か指摘を受けたことはありません（指摘されることがあるのか分かりません…笑）ので、基本的にはこのサンプルをベースに作成して頂ければ通用すると思いますよ。

今回は投稿論文と共に提出するカバーレターの書き方を紹介しました。サンプルはもちろん使っていただいて結構なのですが、必ず必要な箇所は書き換えた上で使用してくださいね。
カバーレターの作成はそのうち事務作業になると思います。短時間で作れるよう、自分なりのテンプレートを作っておくと便利ですよ。
